General
Medik8 C-Tetra® is a revolutionary ultra-stable vitamin C serum to help combat the sun-induced damage to the skin, trigger collagen synthesis, increase the skin’s elasticity and density as well as improve the skin’s texture and brighten the complexion.
Medik8 C-Tetra® uses only Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorabte, the most potent and highly stable form of vitamin C available. Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is a very stable, oil-soluble vitamin C ester which has anti-oxidant activity, inhibiting lipid peroxidation. Topical use can mitigate the damaging effects of UV exposure. Studies have shown it to help stimulate collagen production as well as promote a more even skin tone by clarifying and brightening effect the skin through inhibiting melanogenesis (the production of pigment). Unlike ascorbic acid, it will not exfoliate or irritate skin.
Tetrasubstituted Lipophilic Ascorbates are the holy grail of vitamin C derivatives and tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate is the leader in the class. Medik8 offer tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate in a very simple vehicle to ensure the absence of interference from other ingredients that would be in a regular emulsion cream or gel. C-Tetra® is a trademark of Medik8 and therefore C-Tetra® is only available through Medik8.
The formula has been strengthened by the addition of a natural form of vitamin E (Tocopherol Acetate) and refined Jojoba Oil. Vitamin E and vitamin C work together in order to stabilise each other and prevent each from oxidising. Vitamin E enhances the antioxidant effects of vitamin C when they are co-applied to the skin, and contributes towards its stability when in an oil base. Medik8 only uses the natural form of vitamin E (D-alpha tocopherol), as it occurs naturally in the body and is therefore able to be utilised once it reaches the cell membranes.

Directions
C-Tetra has been formulated for direct application to the face.
In the morning, after cleansing, apply 3-4 drops directly to the skin and blend evenly across the whole facial area, neck and décolleté. Alternatively, place a drop on your finger and massage into the skin. Leave to absorb for 2-3 minutes.
Follow with the application of Hydr8 SPF25 or your preferred SPF hydrator/sunscreen.

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate has been proven to have superior absorption and stability qualities compared with Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate. C-Tetra® is the most stable and highly penetrating derivative of vitamin C used in skincare products.
Although it may be assumed that because Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP) has a lower molecular weight than C-Tetra®,that it would penetrate the skin more effectively, that is not the case.
This table demonstrates that in fact C-Tetra® is 16.5% more effective at penetrating into the epidermis than MAP.
Due to the fact that MAP is water-soluble, compared to C-Tetra® that has four hydrophobic (fat-loving) palmitic acid molecules; which means that the C-Tetra® molecule is more easily able to penetrate the cell membrane.
The function and biological effects are comparable to those of ascorbyl palmitate, but the delivery system is far more successful than its water-soluble comparison. Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is the most powerful synthesier of collagen of all of the derivatives and is also the most stable, making it the ideal choice for Medik8 products.
C-Tetra® Penetration Capacity and Strength of Activity
C-Tetra® is extremely potent at penetrating the cell membrane and delivering ascorbic acid to the deep layers of dermis. In fact, in order for a product using ascorbic acid to have the same potency as C-Tetra®, four times more ascorbic acid would need to be added in C-Tetra’s® place. At this high level of ascorbic acid, the skin would become irritated, red and burnt due to the low pH of ascorbic acid solutions.
